GUIDE 01 · DOWNTIME ECONOMICS

What one hour of belt downtime really costs

When a main feed belt stops, the cost is never the splice. A line moving 300 tonnes an hour that stands for six hours has lost 1,800 tonnes of production, the kiln heat to restart, and often demurrage at the other end. Most failures announce themselves weeks ahead — the plants that lose the least are the ones that repair on their own schedule, not the belt's.

GUIDE 02 · SPLICE SELECTION

Hot, cold or Super-Screw® — choose by the window

A hot vulcanised joint is the strongest splice a fabric belt can carry — when there is time to cure it. Cold bonding frees you from the press; Super-Screw® fits inside a breakdown window with a cordless driver. The wrong habit is choosing by familiarity: the window, the duty and the tension choose the splice, and we'll answer those three with you on the phone.

GUIDE 03 · PROCUREMENT STRATEGY

Why matched belt + splice beats the cheapest roll

A belt fails at its weakest point, and on a well-specified belt that point is the joint. Buy the roll and the splice from different vendors and each will point at the other while your line stands. When one company supplies the belt and makes the joint, there is no seam in the responsibility — ask any vendor who warrants the joint, and listen carefully to the answer.

GUIDE 04 · MAINTENANCE PRACTICE

Four belt-care basics that double belt life

Tracking, cleaning, sealing the load zone and lagging: four unglamorous disciplines that decide whether a belt lasts three years or six. Edge-grinding mistrack, carryback packing the return rollers, spillage burying the tail pulley, a polished drive slipping heat into the covers — every one preventable, every one a stock line in Ipoh and a standard crew scope.

05 / WHEN TO SPLICE, WHEN TO REPLACE

A joint that has opened at the edge can be recut and re-pressed. A carcass with cord exposed across more than a third of the width is a re-belt, not a repair.

If the same joint fails twice inside six months, the problem is tracking or the pulley, not the splice. We will say so.
